Japanese bantams are small and have short legs exacerbating the effect.

How big are Japanese bantams?

Japanese bantams are one of the smallest chickens.

Japanese bantam cockerels weigh between 500 grams and 600 grams and the hens weight between 400 grams and 500 grams. I have odd ones that are outside this weight range but not by much.

The Japanese bantam cockerel is between 10 inches (25 cm) and 12 inches (30 cm) tall, including the tail.

The hens are a little smaller, mine are mostly between 8 inches (20 cm) and 10 inches (25 cm) but also have slightly smaller tails.

Japanese bantams are also about a foot long and 5 inches wide and have a wingspan of approximately 16 inches (41 cm), again the hens are a little smaller and the roosters a bit bigger.

Japanese bantams tend to breed true and getting birds outside these size and weight ranges is not that common.
